Journal Entry 4: Five Digital Media Artists

 The five artists I have chosen to compare for this journal entry are as follows: Stepan Ryabchenko "tranquil" Miguel Chevalier "dear world... Yours, Cambridge" 2015 Tishan Hsu Guweiz untitled WLOP "Cage" ____ For this assignment, I wanted to take a look at how different artists use digital tools to create artwork and how their processes are different from each other. For Stepan Ryabchenko, he creates conceptual architecture and worlds. Miguel Chevalier uses projections and virtual reality and screen displays to take over spaces. Tishan Hsu creates masses of flesh air  brushed together using digital tools, then prints them out large scale or even turns them into sculptures. Guweiz and WLOP are two giants in the digital art sphere when it comes to more commercial and more graphic-novel esque work rather than gallery work. Journal Entry 3: Ulrich Opening

       The Fall 2024 Ulrich opening was incredibly fun and inspiring. The Dream Machine exhibit was surreal and playful. There were many thought provoking pieces on display but I was most intrigued by the [Re]Pose exhibit which featured the motif of reclining figures. Though all of them were amazing, one piece in particular stood out to me the most. Harry Sternberg's print titled "Principle #1: What Seek We?" made in 1930. The print features a reclining female figure, whose face has been replaced with a skull. In the background, there are clothed men shrouded in shadows, observing the nude woman.       According to the statement next to the art work, the print deals with themes of objectification of women in art, in that the body of the woman is turned into a symbol that is necessary to understand the artist's message. In this particular piece, the woman is meant to convey both danger and beauty. The blurb explicitly states that "she is eithe...

Digital Studio Journal Entry 2

  The collage artist that I chose was Felicia Dadak. What really appealed to me was the nostalgic and feminine feel of her works. The colors are soft and feel aged, lending itself to the dream-like quality of her final pieces. The pieces themselves aren’t very complex and they are not trying to be. Going into digital studio, I am looking to gain more proficiency in digital tools and applications such as photoshop, Lightroom, and other editing softwares, so that I might be able to incorporate them into my painting process.
